Good morning, Fredericksburg.
Volunteers unloaded nearly 500 Christmas trees from Western Virginia early Saturday at Greenbriar Shopping Center, starting the Host Lions Club’s annual tree sale on Route 3—each tree supports screenings, school supplies and scholarships.
The sale will continue daily until the lot is sold out.
More than two dozen small businesses from across Stafford County, Fredericksburg and Northern Virginia met Saturday at the Long Family Christmas Market held at the Staffordboro Boulevard commuter lot in North Stafford to kick off the holiday season.
Organizer Robin Long said she will expand the market to Spotsylvania and explore a Lake Anna location — a step that will let more vendors connect with local customers.
Scarlett Pons from PonShop Studio and Gallery and April Peterson from River Rock Outfitter say shopping locally gives a personal touch that big-box stores and online retailers lack—helping keep dollars in the area and supporting jobs.
This emphasis on local buying shows how each purchase strengthens independent businesses.
FCPS hired three family connections liaisons last spring through a federal grant to help Afghan students and parents in Fredericksburg schools.
The liaisons use WhatsApp—a tool families already know—to share school dates and important information in three languages as they work to bridge language and cultural gaps.
