COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grand Illumination has been rescheduled with officials promising a new date soon, and Virginia football will meet Missouri in the Gator Bowl later this postseason. Fans should expect further updates as plans are finalized.  The Free Lance–Star
  • Fredericksburg Main Street announced a free Holiday Magic event this Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Riverfront Park. The celebration includes cocoa and cookies, live carolers, STEM activities for kids (first 500 guests get a travel mug).  Potomac Local News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new restaurant and bar named Stockyards is planned for 407-409 William St in downtown Fredericksburg; renovations are underway and it is targeting a February opening with mechanical bull rides, dancing and live music by Hertenstein Investment Group, replacing the former Jay's Downtown Sports Lounge.  Fredericksburg Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • FAMFaire will fill Market Square on Saturday, Dec. 13 with artisan vendors, seasonal treats, and handcrafted gifts. The event, inspired by classic German holiday markets and presented by the Fredericksburg Area Museum, will showcase live music + family-friendly activities.  Fredericksburg Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fredericksburg City School Board named veteran educator Brendon Albon chief academic officer, effective Dec. 2. Albon (with over 25 years in teaching and leadership) will lead efforts to support student achievement and strengthen programs.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • Several Stafford County schools were rated under Virginia’s new accountability system this week. Six elementary schools and one middle school were Off Track, two elementary schools received Needs Intensive Support, while four high schools earned Distinguished status — officials say the ratings reflect ongoing efforts to maintain high quality instruction.  Potomac Local News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The DEQ approved Caroline’s application for Rappahannock River withdrawal on Dec. 10 and the Garrett family said they will evaluate how the permit affects their challenge to a property taking. They will decide next steps while several issues remain unresolved.  Potomac Local News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia Department of Transportation will close a portion of Rock Hill Church Road from 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 to Monday morning for tree removal ahead of a summer 2026 bridge replacement, and drivers in Stafford County will be detoured via Garrisonville Road, Joshua Road and Mountain View Road.  Potomac Local News
