COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fredericksburg Food Co-Op launched its Community Coop Cash program last month to offer a 10% discount storewide for customers on federal assistance such as EBT and WIC. The new program replaces Carrot Cash after USDA rules forced changes and accepts donations starting at $5.  Fredericksburg Free Press
  • More than one thousand wreaths were delivered to Oak Hill Cemetery Thursday morning as part of the national Wreaths Across America event—local veterans will be honored with a wreath and moment of recognition Saturday at noon.  Fredericksburg Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Host Joey LoMonaco interviews MIT-educated engineer-turned-artist Eto Otitigbe who designed a new art installation at the site of a historic slave auction block in downtown; the podcast episode (Coffee Shop Talk: Dirty Chai at Agora Coffee Shop) is now available on major platforms.  Fredericksburg Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UMW faculty and alumni have released several new books on topics like history, poetry and international affairs that offer fresh wintertime reads for local readers; some titles are set for release in 2025 and Jan. 2026 (including a study on NATO and a Vietnam War novel).  University of Mary Washington
  • Fredericksburg City Public Schools has appointed Dr. Brendon Albon (Chief Academic Officer) to begin his role on December 15; he brings over 25 years of education experience from his work with the Virginia Department of Education. This move aims to boost academic growth in the district.  Potomac Local News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Fredericksburg Planning Commission voted to disapprove the data center proposed at 1500 Gateway Blvd on Wednesday since it did not meet the city’s Comprehensive Plan and raised concerns over noise and carbon goals. Developer Penzance made revisions and pledged funds to local schools, but local residents stayed opposed.  Fredericksburg Free Press
